
Faust
Our “Faust” is the final part of film tetra logy about the history and the people.
The dialog with spectators started with “Molokh” (about Adolf Hitler), than came “Taurus” (about Vladimir Lenin), than followed “Sun” (about Japanese emperor Hirohito). The author, Alexander Sokurov, consider “Faust” to be the final part of the many years work of Russian cinematographists with the help of their colleagues from Japan, France, Germany, USA, Italy and Great Britain. The film is based on the fundamental cultural tradition, connected with Goethe. Authors would do their best to reconstruct the unique atmosphere of people’s life.
The plot is based on the first half of poetic drama by Goethe, where the main line is love line of Faust and Margarita. Outstanding masters Elena Zhukova (artistic director) and Lidia Kryukova (costume designer) work together with director to make a historically genuine reconstruction of the epoch of the drama. They study European costume, architecture of cities, things that surrounded people in their common life. Literature consultant of the film is Marina Koreneva, specialist in Russian-German cultural affairs, professional translator and the leading specialist of Institute of Russian Literature (Pushkin House) od the Academy of Science of Russian Federation.
Shooting of the film would be held in Russia, Germany, Italy, Vatican, Iceland in 2009. A large work on setting building is planned both in pavilions and in nature. Historical costumes are to be made and even means of transport of that time are to be constructed. More than 1000peole would take part in the shooting of mass scenes. Negotiations with leading European actors’ agencies are held to drive to the film world famous actors. Taking Goethe’s masterpiece to the screen was an attractive but complicated idea from the very beginning of cinematography. We can tell than Alexander Sokurov’s group has a great experience of complicated works that gained a world fame – “Russian Ark”, “Sun” and others and can even the most unique ideas come true.
Alexander Sokurov’s film “Faust” is going to be a huge international project.
